Step 1: Audit

The first step in creating an Energy Action Plan™ is our 10-point Home Energy Audit. This includes a visual inspection as well as diagnostics using the most current technologies in the energy efficiency field.

The Inspection

During the inspection a qualified energy auditor inspects, evaluates and collects data for all the systems that relate to energy efficiency. Our 10-point audit includes the following systems:

1. Walls – Solar positioning and insulation
2. Attic – Insulation and ventilation
3. Air Conditioning – Condition and efficiency
4. Heating Equipment – Condition and efficiency
5. Ducting – Condition and thermal imaging scan
6. Air infiltration – Points of energy loss
7. Windows – Solar shading and efficiency
8. Appliances – Age and efficiency
9. Water heating – Age, condition and efficiency
10. Water Consumption – Efficiency of appliances and leak test

The Diagnostics

Our Energy Audit includes the use of Thermal Imaging. At the end of the visual inspection the auditor scans the house with a thermal imaging camera, which can identify thermal issues, missing insulation, thermal bypasses, air infiltration and even plumbing leaks. Duct leakage testing and blower door testing is also available for an additional fee.

The Report

Once the inspection and diagnostics are complete the auditor and homeowner will discuss options for an Energy Action Plan™, which includes home improvement recommendations, cost estimates and available rebates and tax credits. The final results of the Energy Audit are distilled into an easy-to-understand report that is sent as a PDF via email. Everything you would ever want to know about your house and energy efficiency is packed into this report. To see what the Energy Action Plan™ looks like click here
